ROBERTSONS REFLECTIONS … “SILLY OLD BEAR” … A LETTER FROM ALI ROBERTSON

November 10th, 2021 by

One of my favorite stories growing up was Winnie The Pooh, A.A. Milne’s classic series about a bear, his buddies and adventures in the hundred acre wood. The stories were riddled with simple life lessons and amazingly timeless wisdom that can benefit all of us regardless of age.

“What day is it?” asked Pooh.
“It’s today,” squeaked Piglet.
“My favorite day,” said Pooh.”
Winnie The Pooh

I remember enjoying these stories without the distraction of electronics, gaming, social media and technology. During those years it was also easier to find the time to read, listen, and spend time with friends & family. Even finding time alone discovering creative ways to live, love, learn and enjoy life. I sometimes long for those days, a simpler time where it was so much easier to live in the moment, to be spontaneous, or maybe even to just chill out and do nothing.

“Don’t underestimate the value of Doing Nothing, of just going along, listening to all the things you can’t hear, and not bothering with any of them.”
—Winnie the Pooh

Today Winnie The Pooh celebrates his hundredth birthday and is looking pretty good as he remains a literary icon with stories about kindness, loyalty, joy and and most importantly friendship.

“Any day spent with you is my favorite day. So, today is my new favorite day.”
—Winnie the Pooh

We sometimes get so caught up in our busy lives that we forget to do more of what makes us happy, more time spent with those that we enjoy being with. Sometimes when good happens we don’t take enough time to appreciate it. Too many of us think that we have enough time to do these things later. We postpone or opt out of opportunities, or invitations that might open up our eyes and our minds to new experiences.

“I always get to where I’m going by walking away from where I have been.”
—Winnie the Pooh

Maybe this Thanksgiving you can be the point person for creating an inspired experience. Maybe a day trip, a weekend excursion, an overdue phone a friend, or an unannounced fly by visit. How about a spontaneous oversand beach adventure with friends and colleagues, you can read about our recent Sandy Neck adventure in this newsletter, even watch the video. Even see some flashback photos of when my family used to park an RV we called the White Whale on that same Sandy Neck Beach.

“You can’t stay in your corner of the Forest waiting for others to come to you. You have to go to them sometimes.” ― Winnie The Pooh

Maybe I am still a kid at heart, or maybe this reflection has a deeper meaning, not to deep mind you, but one that has me embracing a new appreciation for how important it is for all of us to find a healthy balance when it comes to living, working, and bottom line how we spend our time.

“You can’t save time. You can only spend it, but you can spend it wisely or foolishly.” ― Winnie The Pooh

I think Winnie The Pooh gets it and gets me. He certainly has me now with a new appreciation of how important it is to use our time wisely and to find time to do things with those people; family, friends or even animals, that make you and yours happy.

“It isn’t much good having anything exciting, if you can’t share it with somebody.”
—Winnie the Pooh

I am so appreciative of my Robertsons family and our loyal customers. I wish for all of you an inspirational, aspirational, fall season and a very Happy Thanksgiving. Take some time to push pause and celebrate your family, your friends. Do me a favor and go look for those old photos, photo albums and experience the fond memory flashbacks that some of these photos allowed me to do. Or better yet … take a few minutes to dust off as many Winnie The Pooh books as you can get your hands on. Read, reread and if you can … read them to anyone that will listen.

“Sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in your heart.”
—Winnie the Pooh

“Silly Old Bear” ???…. You tell me.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone.
