It’s Okay to Take the Long Way Home
By Ali Robertson, President of Robertson’s GMC
May is always an exciting month here at Robertson’s GMC. The warmer weather is finally arriving, the days are getting longer, and many of us are looking forward to road trips, family gatherings, outdoor projects, and spending more time outside enjoying everything spring has to offer.
May is also a month of appreciation and reflection. We celebrate Mother’s Day, recognizing the incredible mothers and mother figures who support their families and communities every day — thank you for everything you do. 💐 We also want to wish a very Happy Birthday to our team members celebrating this month, Evan, Ana & Alyssa, thank you for all you do for the Robertson’s family. 🎉
As Memorial Day approaches, we take time to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. We are deeply grateful to all who have served and continue to serve — thank you for your dedication and service. 🇺🇸
And of course, May also means one big thing in the GMC world — Truck Month is here! One of the biggest sales events of the year has arrived, bringing some of the best offers and savings across the GMC lineup. Whether you’ve been considering a Sierra, Terrain, Acadia, Yukon, or another GMC model, it’s a great time to stop by and explore what’s new.
May is also Mental Health Awareness Month, and I think it serves as an important reminder to slow down, check in with ourselves and the people around us, and prioritize our wellbeing.
In today’s world, it feels like we’re constantly moving, staying connected, and thinking about what comes next. Because of that, it can be easy to overlook how stress, fatigue, and anxiety affect our everyday lives — including something as routine as getting behind the wheel.
At Robertson’s GMC, safety has always been one of our core values. From routine maintenance to advanced driver-assist technology, we’re committed to helping keep our customers and community safe on the road. But one of the most important safety features in any vehicle isn’t technology at all — it’s you.
The Road Is Mental, Too
Driving requires focus, awareness, and quick decision-making. When we feel mentally clear, it becomes easier to stay alert and respond to the road around us. But when we’re overwhelmed, exhausted, or distracted, our reaction time and judgment can be affected. Mental wellbeing and road safety truly go hand in hand.
Before getting behind the wheel, take a moment to check in with yourself. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, extremely tired, anxious, or unable to fully focus, give yourself permission to slow down. Sometimes a short break, a few deep breaths, or simply giving yourself extra time can make all the difference.
Take the Long Way Home
I’ve always believed there’s value in slowing down and appreciating the journey. Take the scenic route home. Put on your favorite song. Roll the windows down. Enjoy the quiet.
Driving doesn’t always have to be about getting somewhere quickly. Sometimes it’s an opportunity to reset, clear your mind, and take a moment for yourself. Those uninterrupted minutes can be more meaningful than we realize.
Modern GMC vehicles help support confident driving with technologies like Lane Keep Assist, Forward Collision Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control, Super Cruise Hands-Free Driving, and Surround Vision Cameras, providing added confidence and support when you need it.
At Robertson’s GMC, we believe in taking care of our community both on and off the road. Mental health matters. Checking in matters. Supporting one another matters.
Enjoy the sunshine, enjoy the drive, and when you need it… take the long way home.
