March Madness & Why March Matters Here At Robertsons
Article By Ali Robertson l Principal Owner, Robertson’s GMC
Robertsons GMC is celebrating March as both National Truck Month and a moment to honor the women who keep this four‑generation family dealership rolling forward. This piece is written from my driver’s seat—as a former long‑haul trucker and now Principal Owner of a woman‑owned truck dealership in a traditionally male‑dominated industry.
Why March Matters At Robertsons
March is National Truck Month, which makes it one of the best times of the year to be thinking about how the right truck can change your work, your weekends, and your peace of mind. Here at Robertsons GMC in Wareham, our lot is full of GMC Sierras, Canyons, and commercial units that are built for real‑world jobs, not just brochures. March also includes International Women’s Day on March 8, a global observance rooted in the early labor movement and officially recognized by the United Nations in 1975. For our dealership, that intersection—trucks and trailblazing women—is not a marketing angle; it is our story.
A Four‑Generation Truck Story
Robertsons GMC is a four‑generation, family‑owned truck dealership serving Wareham and the greater SouthCoast. Long before my name was on the door, my dad, Howie Robertson, was building this business one relationship at a time, focusing on trust, service, and standing behind every truck that left the lot.
While he was growing the dealership, I was doing my own version of truck school—behind the wheel of eighteen‑wheelers, hauling freight across the country. Those years on the road taught me what trucks really mean when the weather turns, the load is heavy, and you are a thousand miles from home.
From Eighteen‑Wheelers To The Corner Office
About twelve years ago, my dad called and said the dealership needed someone to take charge of the accounting and get a tighter handle on the numbers. I came in to “help with the books,” but quickly discovered that understanding the financials meant understanding every department—sales, service, parts, warranty, and everything in between. I learned the business from the inside out: how inventory turns, why a disciplined service process matters, and how small operational decisions ripple into customer experience and long‑term loyalty. Over time, my role evolved from accountant to operator, and ultimately to Principal Owner of one of the most successful GMC dealerships in the Northeast.
A Woman‑Owned Dealership In A Male‑Dominant Industry
The truck and automotive world has traditionally been a male‑dominated arena, especially when it comes to ownership and leadership. Robertson’s GMC is a woman‑owned dealership, and that reality shapes how we make decisions, how we build our team, and how we treat people who walk through our doors. Being both a former truck driver and a woman in this space gives me a different perspective; I know what it feels like to be underestimated, talked over, or treated like you do not belong in the conversation. That lived experience is why we are so intentional about creating a culture where respect is non‑negotiable and expertise is earned,
Creating A More Comfortable Experience For Women
Many women have told us that traditional dealerships can feel intimidating—too much pressure, too little listening, and a sense that someone else is steering the process. At Robertsons, we work hard to flip that experience: we slow down, ask questions, and walk through options in clear, straightforward language. Being a woman‑owned dealership means we are especially tuned in to the details that make women feel comfortable, from transparent pricing conversations to a genuine focus on safety, practicality, and long‑term value. Whether you are buying your first truck, replacing a family SUV, or helping a parent into a safer vehicle, our goal is that you feel heard, respected, and fully in control.
Trucks For Work, For Family, And Everything Between
At Robertsons, our focus is simple: the right truck for the job, whether that is a daily‑driver pickup, a family hauler, or a hard‑working commercial unit. Our inventory ranges from half‑ton GMC Sierras and Canyons to Hino Commercials and other heavy‑duty trucks set up for contractors, fleet operators, and owner‑operators who need serious capability. Our truck center and truck‑centric team speaks the language of payload, tow ratings, upfits and total cost of ownership, so you leave with a truck that actually fits your real‑world needs—not just a paint color and a payment.
How We Match Trucks To Real Life
| Your Need | Our Focus |
| Daily driver / family | Comfort, safety tech, fuel efficiency, and year‑round drivability. |
| Contractor or builder | Payload, tow ratings, upfits, and uptime for job‑site demands. |
| Fleet and commercial | Spec’ing Hino and GMC commercial units around your routes and loads. |
| Weekend and adventure | Capability, storage, and confidence for towing, trails, and trips. |
Honoring International Women’s Day
International Women’s Day on March 8 traces its roots back to early 20th‑century labor movements that called for fair pay, safer working conditions, and voting rights for women. It has since become a global day to recognize women’s achievements and highlight the work still to be done for equality. In our world, it is also a chance to celebrate the women in trucking and automotive—drivers, service advisors, title clerks, technicians, finance managers, and owners—who keep this industry moving, often without much recognition. At Robertsons, we are committed to hiring, promoting, and mentoring women across the dealership, from the service drive to the leadership team.
An Invitation From The Driver’s Seat
If you are a woman who has ever felt talked over, rushed, or dismissed in a dealership, I want you to know you have another option here in Wareham. My team and I are committed to a low‑pressure, highly informed experience where your questions are welcomed and your goals drive every recommendation we make. If you are a business owner or fleet manager, we understand that your trucks are not just assets on a spreadsheet—they are the backbone of your livelihood, and we treat them that way.
This National Truck Month and International Women’s Day, I am proud to carry forward four generations of Robertson family truck history while opening the door wider for the next generation of women in this industry.
